Robin & Helene meet in Laguna Beach, CA

Helene Neu and I recently met for lunch in Laguna Beach, California. The weather was spectacular and and we had a nice visit. Helene lives in Ann Arbor but was in Redondo Beach visiting her family. We stay in touch by phone during the year and usually manage a face to face once a year. It is always so comforting to see old friends and I enjoy our short visits.

Five or us met at a French restaurant—no surprise there!  We think we are the only DC area EAPers from our year in Bordeaux.  Even though we could not all remember each other from Bordeaux, we had a great time and we will certainly remember each other now.  We have a lot in common after all these years, and our career and travel paths have intersected more than we could ever have imagined.

Here are 3 photos.  In the group photo, we are, from left to right: Nanette, Susan, Leslie, Marie and Jennifer.  We had a blast.  I will come to the event in LA on May 31^st and will have to represent the other DC alumnae.  Looking forward to it.

In 2003, I drove through Bordeaux and took a few pictures. The recent posts have inspired me to put a couple of these on the blog. Although much has changed in Talence, the chateau d'eau (the view out my dorm window) was still there. I also took a picture of Tammy Brown's and Cindy Thornburg's apt at 14 Rue de la Boetie - it had been spruced up and was looking much better than when we were there - and thought I'd share with everyone.

La Jolla mini Reunion

I am thrilled to report that our reunion in La Jolla was a great success! Eight of us convened at Humphreys in La Jolla for lunch and it couldn't have been more delightful. We brought photo albums, ID cards, and an endless stream of memories with which to regale one another throughout lunch. In attendance were Skip Condé, Phil Jackson, Amy Iwata Jackson, Seonaid "Shona" McArthur, Alex Ruiz, Martha Salinas, and yours truly, Robin Creighton Genat. There was a genuine feeling of warmth, openness, and enthusiasm for one another and an appreciation for the great opportunity we had been given by virtue of this experience so many years ago. Phil brought a bottle of the most divine Bordeaux red to share. Here are a few photos.

Hi Everyone,

It's been fun to see all the comments from people in the blog and the emails. Holly Harrison (now Holly Cree) and I have been in contact over the years and would both love to join in a reunion with other EAPers. I live in Mount Vernon in northwest Washington. Holly, who lives in Pocatello Idaho, is planning to come to Seattle on Thursday, December 5 and Friday, December 6. If there are any other EAPers who live nearby, we would like to extend an invitation to meet with us in Seattle for lunch or dinner on Thursday or lunch on Friday. We thought a mini-reunion could be fun and we also both hope to make it to any bigger reunion that might take place in California (or France). Holly is suggesting a French restaurant in Seattle, Chloe Bistrot, which has good ratings.

San Diego Mini-Reunion Nov. 14, 2013

We did it! In just a few days, we managed to set a date and find a location. There are five of us in San Diego County: Robin Creighton Genat, Seonaid "Shona" McArthur, Alexandra "Alex" Ruiz, Martha Salinas, and Rhoda Basil White. I addition, we will be joined by Skip Condé. We are meeting for lunch at Humphreys Grill in La Jolla on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at noon. We are all really excited about it and wondering if we will even recognize each other! Ok, everyone.  I'm new to blogging, so hopefully this will find its way to the right people.  Thanks to Linda and Anna Kay, I've been found!!  So nice not to be lost anymore.  After I left Bordeaux and came home to UC, I returned under the reorganized EAP program and did the Sorbonne 1970-71 program.  I'd love to find anyone who atttended there as well -- there were only 20 of us.  I'm teaching and still playing the violin.  You can find me on Peninsulasymphony.org.  I also do long-distance cycling.  I'm widowed, but my husband left me two wonderful daughters, both of whom have Ph.D.'s, so I know he'd be proud of them.  I'd love to hear from any and all.  Life moves fast, doesn't it?

Little by little, UC EAP seems to be coming around and realizing that they might be able to help old alums connect.  Sort of.

So, I clicked here and signed up and...  NOTHING happened.  OK, so all of my vital statistics are now in their database.  Where does that get me? get us?  Then I reread the come-on and realized it only offers to "reconnect [me] with EAP" and "stay updated on EAP news" (I don't know what the "more" might involve).  I suspect this is simply another fund-raising campaign.  Don't get me wrong.  I have nothing against fund-raising campaigns, especially this one.  But aren't alumni associations supposed to help us stay/get in touch with EACH OTHER?
